1. Restoration or Reformation? The 19th Century Christians Made an All Out Effort to
RESTORE, NOT REFORM
The Church.
What’s the Difference?
3. The Hebrews Writer Spoke of Divine Ordinances of the OT Which Could Not “As Touching the Conscience, Make the Worshiper Perfect.” In Regard to This He States That They “Were Imposed Until a Time of Reformation”
4. Heb 9:8-10 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
5. Reformation Defined “A time when the imperfect, the inadequate, would be superseded by a better order of things.” (Vine)
6. New order of priesthood, (Heb. 7:11-17)
New covenant, (Heb. 7:12)
New true tabernacle, (Heb. 8:2)
New sacrifice, perfect & complete, (Heb. 9:26)
New “heavenly Jerusalem,” (Heb. 12:22)
7. Reformation Realized? Reformation is realized in Jesus Christ, the gospel & the NT church.
Christians are privileged to be participants in this reformation.
We should rejoice in this work accomplished through Jesus in our behalf.
8. Reformation Realized (Con’t.) God’s word has been put into our hearts.
Heb. 8:10, 12 (from Jer. 31:33) – 2 Cor. 3:2-3
As citizens in His kingdom we enjoy blessings and benefits, because things are “better.”
Heb. 8:6; 7:22; 9:15 – Lk. 22:20 – 1 Cor. 11:25
2 Cor. 3:6
Jesus, as High Priest, sits on his throne (now).
Heb. 8:1-2, “…has taken…”
Heb. 1:3, “…sat down…”
9. Reformation Realized, (Con’t.) He makes intercession for us.
Heb. 7:25; 9:24 – Rom. 8:27, 34 – 1 Jn. 2:1
The way to heaven is ours.
Heb. 10:20; 9:8 – Jn. 14:6 (into church)
With heaven in view we have certain obligations in this reformation.
Heb. 12:22-29, (v 25 “…do not refuse Him…” & v 28 “…show gratitude…”); 10:24-25, (attend to “…stimulate…”).
10. With NT Christianity RESTORED, ours is to accept the REFORMATION of:
A new priesthood
A new covenant
A new tabernacle
A new sacrifice
A new heavenly Jerusalem
