  1. ICP VEGETATION 29th session WGE ICP Vegetation* General activities and publications in 2009/10 • ECE/EB.AIR/WG.1/2010/3, annex IV • Annual Report Integrated science for our changing worldwww.ceh.ac.uk * Supported by Defra, UK http://icpvegetation.ceh.ac.uk

  2. ICP VEGETATION 29th session WGE Flux-based critical levels for ozone ICP Vegetation Expert Panel Meeting ‘Flux-based assessment of ozone effects for air pollution policy’ 9-12 November, 2009, JRC-Ispra, Italy Integrated science for our changing worldwww.ceh.ac.uk • 42 experts:12 Parties to the Convention, ICP Vegetation, ICP Forests, TFIAM, CIAM, EMEP, JRC, Convention Secretariat • Agreed on methodology and further data analysis before 23rd TFM • Follow-on discussions and decisions at 23rd TFM (Feb 2010) • Adoption of 10 new/revised flux-based CLs & their • application, incl. policy-relevant indicators for IAM • Agreed at 26th ICP M&M TFM, 26th ICP Forests TFM • Revision chapter 3 Modelling and Mapping Manual

  3. ICP VEGETATION 29th session WGE 23rd Task Force Meeting (CODA-CERVA, Tervuren, Belgium, 1-3 February, 2010) • 58 experts from 20 countries, including Cuba and Japan and a representative from EMEP-MSC/East Unfortunately the Secretariat was not able to attend • Main decisions: • 10 new/revised flux-based ozone critical levels • O3 & food security report (end 2010) • O3, carbon sequestration and CC report (end 2011) • Review mosses as biomonitors of POPs (2011) • Pilot study on POPs during 2010/11 moss survey Integrated science for our changing worldwww.ceh.ac.uk

  4. ICP VEGETATION 29th session WGE Workshop on Climate & Air (Oct. 2009) • Co-benefits for reducing surface ozone concentrations for both air pollution and climate change policies • Stomatal O3 flux: CC factors incorporated • O3 and CC impacts on vegetation are complex: Non-linearity of interactions Scaling up • Impacts of ozone on vegetation and feedbacks to climate need to be included in global climate models in order to better predict consequences for C sequestration and hydrological cycles • More large scale, long-term multi-component field studies required (including for parameterisation and validation of model components) Integrated science for our changing worldwww.ceh.ac.uk

  5. ICP VEGETATION Malé Declaration 29th session WGE Participation and Outreach • 35 countries in ECE region, including Belarus, Russian • Federation, Ukraine (EECCA) and several SEE countries • Task Force Meetings: delegates from Japan, India, Cuba, S. Africa • Ozone biomonitoring: China, Cuba, Japan, S. Africa • SEI-York: secretariat Global Atmospheric Pollution (GAP) Forum RAPIDC (Regional Air Pollution In Developing Countries – continuation of funding for South Asia, including MaléDeclaration countries (2010-2012) • Report ozone impacts on food security: input from South Asia Integrated science for our changing worldwww.ceh.ac.uk
