What is Cyberbullying?

  • Bullies used to be visible:

    • Teasing in hallways

    • Shoving nerd in locker

    • Threaten or harass someone, to get something, money, homework, etc.

  • Cyberbullies are invisible

    • Electronically sending text, emails or instant messages to others.

  • Stop – don’t respond. Walk away and cool down.

  • Block – block the person, report the person to the site for inappropriate use – Andrea

  • Tell – Tell a parent, an adult, if necessary, the police due to threats.

  • Teasing your brother or sister, or your friend, or when you are teased. At some point, it becomes harassment and you want it to stop.

  • Take the quiz – be truthful.

  • Parents, review the quiz with your child to discuss their actions

  • Students sending nude photos of themselves electronically through text messages, emails, or instant messages.

  • Cannot be recalled, erased, removed, etc.

  • Can be forwarded and posted at anytime.

  • Sending it on, considered distribution of child pornography.

  • Can be labeled as a sex offender.

  • Appears uneasy about going to school or outside in general

  • Appears nervous or jumpy when an Instant Message, text message, or Email appears

  • Becomes abnormally withdrawn from usual friends and family members

  • Avoids discussions about what they are doing on the computer
