  3. Women in particular –but not only • The “Dandies “ of Medieval Times- the French Court • Women however, most “handicapped— • Bound Feet • Tiny waists ( 19th century)

  4. Today we have ratcheted up the pressure • The Perfectable Body: Men • from Codpieces to Penis Implants • from Rhino to Viagra

  5. For Women: • Huge ( 33 % since 2007 ) increase in Plastic Surgery: • Highest growth in women under 25 • Noses, lips, cheek bones, lipo-suction, now • vaginas… • Dangerous and sometimes disfiguring..

  6. Lately: SHOES!

Our bodies are a large part of our identities.. • Fat is seen as a character flaw- a character • Tall is seen as smarter and more competent • Color-Darkerrather than lighter has been a part of Racism ( Brazil, the United States, etc) • Hair –seen as youthful, important for both men/women • Penis Size and Breast size- fetish -

  8. Bodies impact our connection to others throughout the life cycle.. The films – Private Dicks– – Breasts : • Showing myths, culture, personal feelings of adequacy or inadequacy based on one body part… • Concern with Size, Shape Performance, Masculinity or Femininity… • Dealing with bodies when they are damaged and as if they were damaged…
