  2. The current Standards Doc is August 2006 • Mandate? – No but it is highly recommended • Even to check when Commerce of Public works have new cabling installed?

  3. Some Cabling • Not to Standard • Cheaper materials • Reduced Flexibility • Short-term solution • Limited warranty • Redressing issues not supported

  4. DET Cabling • Reduces TCO • Scalable solution • Long term solution Warranty 15-25 yrs • +Certification - +tests • Redressing issues -DET will support

  5. Process for Cabling • Audit of current network components • AMS plans annotated (sample available) • Scope Of Works devised (Power as well) • 3 Cabling quotes from Approved Commerce contractors sought – 1 visit • 2 Week turn around time for quotes • Evaluation – school decides

  6. Hidden Costs • Frustration with intermittent faults • Time consuming tracing - support issue • Requires Replacement NOT rectification • Short Life – poor cable
