  12. Prepositions Prepositions – prijedlozi su riječi koje se koriste sa imenicama (ili imeničkim ekvivalentima) da bi odredili odnos u kojem ta imenica uz koju prijedlog stoji sa nekom drugom riječi u rečenici. The book is on the table. The book is beside the table. She read the book during the class. Prijedlozi se najčešće koriste da označe mjesto ili vrijeme.

  13. Two-word verbs U engleskom jeziku postoje i glagoli koji u osnovi imaju jedno značenje ali uz prijedlog imaju sasvim drugačije značenje. To su, tzv. dvočlani glagoli – two-word verbs. • apply to – obratiti se nekome, odnositi If you want, you can apply to the manager. The new rule does not apply to you.

  14. Two-word verbs • apply for – konkurisati za mjesto, vizu, i sl. I’m applying for a new job. I applied for a visa. • ask for – tražiti, moliti The situation is serious, we must ask for help. Don’t ask for trouble. • leave with – ostaviti kod She left her bag with Mary. Could I leave this file with you?

  15. Two-word verbs

  16. Adjectives Pridjevi su riječi koje se koriste da opišu imenicu ili da daju više informacija o imenici, ili šire, riječi koje kvalifikuju imenicu, dodaju njenom značenju ali ograničavaju njenu upotrebu.

  17. Adjectives • house – označava sve kuće • the bighouse – govori više o samoj kući i u isto vrijeme isključuje sve male (small) kuće • the big, newhouse – daje nam još više podataka o kući, ali i dodatno smanjuje prvobitni pojam • the big, new, whitehouse – ovo se može primjeniti na samo nekoliko kuća: daje nam preciznu sliku kuće, ali i potpuno ograničava ono prvobitno “house”

  23.
