  3. Drug Court and Mental Health Court History • Drug Court established 1999 • Mental Health Court established 2005 • Need for Expansion, Increase Best Practices, add Additional Services

  4. Strategic Planning & Partnerships Formed • Established Criminal Justice Behavioral Health Advisory Council • Partnerships formed with: Charlotte County Board of Commissioners Charlotte County Sheriff Charlotte County Court System Charlotte Behavioral Health Care Public Safety Coordinating Council Consumers and Advocates (NAMI, Haven) Department of Children & Families SAMH Homeless Coalition & Faith Based Providers • Completed system map, developed strategic plan and action plan for implementation of new/improved services.

  5. 1st Cycle of FundingReinvestment Planning Grant • Awarded $60,190 one year grant from DCF in 2008 which funded: • Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Implementation with Florida Partners in Crisis as consultant. • Full time Planner, Diversion Specialist @ CBHC • Sequential Intercept Model mapping, training and consultation from FMHI Technical Assistance Center

Additional Funding • BJA Grant – Drug Court Discretionary $199,990 • Court Screener: Charlotte Behavioral Health • Treatment Providers • Drug Court Testing • ‘Tune Up’ Training for Drug Court team • Program Evaluation • FDLE/JAG – ARRA Grant $59,800 • Court Coordinator: Court Administration • Training

  7. 2nd Cycle of FundingReinvestment Implementation Grant • Awarded 3 year grant for $565,560 to fund: • Discharge Planning / Re-entry • 1 Full Time Case Manager • 1 Part Time Coordinator (Year 1) • Treatment Services, Housing, Meds • Expanded CIT Training • Drug Court Funding • 1 Full Time Court Coordinator (Year 2, 3)

  13. Accomplishments/Success • Recidivism rates: • Drug Court: 13% • Mental Health Court: 8.6% • Increased and maintained Court Services capacity • CIT: 13 dispatchers trained, 57 officers trained (includes LE, CO, probation officers, etc.)
