  2. Hardware Sort • Suggested Instructions • Had Students Come Up With Classification Scheme • Excellent Lead-up Questions • Modifications • Classroom Supplies • Tape, Glue, Pens, Pencils, Paper Clips, Markers • Used Two different brands of markers (Similar Objects)

  3. Strengths • Excellent Introductory Activity • Easily Adaptable • Very Quick Teacher Prep • Emphasizes Well the Concept of Classification

  4. Weaknesses • Very few weaknesses • If Not Modified, Could Be High Teacher Prep

  5. Deep Sea Sort • Used Lesson Plan Virtually As-Is • Computer Set-up (1 Laptop/2 Students) • 4 Students/Group • Used Immediately after Hardware Sort • Students Designed a Classification Scheme

  6. Strengths • Accomplishes Objectives • Illustrates Difficulties for Scientists • Amazing Photographs • Engages Students • Easy to Break into Groups • No Right or Wrong Answers (almost)

  7. Weaknesses • Very Few • Can Get a Bit Bogged Down in Instructions

  8. Ideas • Intro activities • Break Down Activities Onto Separate Pages
