“The Bike” • What was one conflict the main character faced in the bike? (Remember Answer, Prove, Explain+ Your connection*) A One conflict the boy faced was the internal struggle with his self-image. He wanted to be cool and would go to whatever lengths to prove a point to himself. P In the story, he tells the younger kid to run over his ankles because apparently he can take the pain. However, he ends up crying and isn’t as tough as he thinks he is. EHe cares more about how he looks to others than how he will be affected by his actions, and in the end he faces the consequences for this inner conflict. * This is a common issue among children who have an older sibling, as this boy did. Perhaps he felt neglected or unimportant in his family and needed to do things that were out of the ordinary to make himself feel better as an individual.
