  15. Teacher Accreditation

  16. All teachers require accreditation • Australia wide, Consistent with other professions • Not directly transferable state to state but some states (Queensland and WA) have reciprocal arrangements for teachers with FULL registration status • You will need to seek accreditation again if you leave teaching for a period of more than 5 years.

  21. How do I maintain my accreditation? • Pay $100 each year Log your professional learning at the website • 50 hours NESA registered hours • 50 hours Teacher Identified hours

NESA Endorsed Courses • Offered by TEC, AIS, NESA, Other Providers • Sign on with your eTAMSat the designated tables • Stay for the complete session in order to claim the hours • Complete the evaluation at the end of the session(strategy varies by provider) • After receiving notification from the eTAMS account and evaluate the course within 3 months of completing it (so it’s actually evaluated twice before you “get the hours”)

Teacher Identified PD • Much of our School PL will be able to be used where it is not part of your usual work • Network meetings etc. • Casual teachers will have an opportunity to attend TEC PD • Further Study • You can count relevant further study towards all your 100 hours –application form to NESA

What are Teacher Identified hours • Teacher identified PD NESA • Teacher Identified PD covers formal and informal training, courses, workshops, seminars and activities you might attend either in or outside of working hours. • The following activities may also count as Teacher Identified PD: • reflecting on teaching practice • planning for the delivery of professional learning • observing a teacher or colleague’s teaching • attending an education related talk or seminar, for example at a museum or art gallery.

  34. How to log Teacher Identified PD

Does anyone check? • Yes NESA audits the process • You will have to give your supervisor access to your PD record which shows your evaluation • Auditing of Teacher Accreditation is part of the NESA School Registration Visit So…. Log carefully, with integrity e.g. you can’t log 24 hours for this conference

  36. Are NESA hours enough? • You have to get 100 hours over 5 years (full time)- approx. 10 NESA hours +10 Teacher Identified OR • Just 20 NESA hours OR • Further Study • NESA hours of further study can account for the full 100

Further study • If you complete further tertiary study during your maintenance period that aligns with the Standards, you can apply to have your completed study count towards your PD requirements. • Depending on what study you have done, further tertiary study that you have successfully completed within your maintenance period may satisfy the NESA Registered PD requirement for that maintenance period.

Casual Teachers (with Pacific School as TAA) • Each year you will need to: • Undertake our Annual Mandatory training in relation to Teacher accreditation • Pay your NESA fees and keep your WWCC up to date • Professional Development • A minimum of 50 NESA Registered hours and the rest as Teacher Identified across 7 yearsif you are a casual. • It is your responsibility to identify and undertake relevant PD • As a casual teacher this may incur some costs

Leave of Absence Reasons for a leave of absence can include time away from teaching due to: • travelling overseas • teaching overseas • maternity/parental leave • working in a full-time capacity in another industry or sector • relocating or teaching interstate • not working because of family responsibilities, illness or misadventure. • Apply on line in your eTAMS account

  43. Maintaining your Accreditation Attest to Proficient Teacher Status at the end of each 5(full time)/7 (part time) year period- just press the submit???????   45. What about the Higher Levels of Accreditation ? • The TAA for higher levels of accreditation for all Pacific Schools is AIS - ISTAA • You are then under their policies and procedures for your accreditation • You are supervised by a staff member in that organisation
