Best Scenario: BedZed, UK • Beddington Zero Energy Development in Wallington, Surrey • Buildings all have solar panels and “wind catchers” • 109kW of PV for 82 units • 100 unit development is powered by a 130kW combined heat and power biomass plant • Parking spaces are expensive • Community has a car-pool scheme and plug-in spots for electric cars • 700 people signed up for future zero energy housing http://www.nesea.org/publications/NESun/BedZED.html

How does Albacete fit? • Albacete can strive to: • Make new developments as green as BedZed, encouraging efficient buildings • Build urban solar and wind generation • Development biomass energy and combined heat and power generation • Decrease coal usage by co-firing coal with biomass • Development cleaner methods of transportation such as public transit that runs on natural gas or biofuels, and eventually, even hydrogen
