  1. BOX ELDER HIGH SCHOOL ALP Program Overview

  2. ALP levels • Level P = Pre Emergent. Students at this level are non English Proficient. They are enrolled in 2 ALP classes. • Level E = Early Intermediate. Students at this level are Limited English Proficient. They are enrolled in 1 or 2 ALP classes. • Level I = Intermediate. Students at this level are still Limited English Proficient but more advanced. They are enrolled in 1 or 2 ALP classes. • Level A = Early Advanced. These students are monitored regularly and receive no or 1 ALP class. • Level F = Advanced. Students at this level are Fully English Proficient. They are mainstreamed and monitored for at least 2 years. • Exited – Former ALP student. Students must pass the English Language Arts CRT to be considered fluent and exited from the ALP program.

  3. ALP Program Placement Program placement is based on a student’s English proficiency level, which is determined by the QIA and UALPA tests.

  4. Key to Previous slide: ALP levels Level P – NEP / 2 ALP classes. Level E – LEP / 2 ALP classes. Level I – LEP / 1-2 ALP classes. Level A – FEP / Monitored 0 or 1 ALP classes. Level F – Out of ALP, monitored for 2 years. Note: Must pass the English Language Arts CRT to be considered fluent

Sheltered Courses—Content Area • Definition: An instructional approach that helps LEP students learn content while acquiring English • Make the core curriculum accessible to LEP students • Boost English language acquisition • Provide a success experience, strengthen self-concept, and ease process of acculturation
