  3. Exams? In examinations those who do not wish to know ask questions of those who cannot tell. Break it down: PM Background – History & BOK’s [contextual?] Delivering the project: Business Case, Context, Sponsors, Stakeholders – Expectations, Briefing, Scope definition & management, Success Criteria [Deliverables/Benefits] Life Cycle – PMP’s, Planning, Scheduling, SCM, Resources management, Project Control, Lean, Information management [ Configuration, Change], Design management, Quality management, Handover & Close out. Portfolio & Programme Management: Definition, Business Focus. Different business models Project Governance Portfolio & Programme Management Corporate Social Responsibility [CSR] - [H&S, Environmental Mgt]

  7. The knowledge [Syllabus] Breadth and Depth [Scope?] Theory & Application? Measure Theory and Application separately? Together? How? Look at the LO’s.

The Learning Outcomes • Analyse and evaluate research-based theory and relate it to project application; • Analyse the conflicting objectives of a project scenario and formulate a project management plan which defines the scope of the project and specifies key success criteria and the processes by which they will be monitored and reviewed throughout the project life-cycle; • Critically appraise their own group performance by applying mature appraisal and judgement.

Additional issues from the Assessment Brief Context of the APM University Challenge • The objectives of the Universities Project Challenge are to provide students with: • An excellent way by which to develop and practice their project management theory in a ‘real’ environment. • The opportunity to work alongside experienced project and programme managers from the APM North East Branch. During the Challenge teams will work in a supportive, friendly and competitive environment. They will: • Develop project management theory and skills on a real project. • Gain ‘real life’ experience and have the opportunity to practice hard and soft skills not easily taught in the classroom. • Understand the correct and proper utilisation of project management to deliver a solution. • Develop knowledge of success criteria required to deliver a winning project. • Experience the qualities of an effective project manager. • Obtain a realistic judgement of success, and project management skills, via the expertise of their APM mentor. • Utilise up to £300 to deliver their project.

  10. Additional issues from the Assessment Brief: Each team is to prepare and develop a project proposal in written form of their interpretation based on this year’s challenge theme of “Community benefit: Creating lasting value in uncertain times”

Analyse your own requirements from the module. • Look at the syllabus. • Look at the Module Learning Outcomes. • Decide on how you will break down the following issues: • Theory and Practice [separate or together] • Group & Individual assessment [How to split them] • What vehicles could you use to deliver on these issues?

  13. Visual Planning: Using the post it notes develop a visual representation of what you think the assessment should involve. Collectively and collaboratively build the Vision. Create a shared mental model that you can all agree on – in your group [or the whole seminar group?].

  14. Assessment Components: What will you be measuring? Learning Outcomes[inc your own] & Syllabus What will you actually produce? Type of work? Which parts of syllabus will be group and which individual? Answering a question? Related to something specific like a case study? How will you mark it? Marking Scheme, Marking Matrix, Peer assessment for groupwork?
