  3. Today’s Aim • We are learning about the protests in Soweto and about Steve Biko. We are learning about the consequences of these events and how they impacted on the rest of the world.

  4. Last Lesson… • Sharpeville Massacre 21 March 1960 • A non violent protest against passbooks • Led by the ANC and PAC (Pan Africanist Congress) • 5000 protestors, 300 police officers • 69 killed, around 200 injured. • A turning point for South African History

  5. After Sharpeville… • Why did Apartheid continue until 1994? • How come the South African Government could continue to suppress Black South Africans? • How come no one else seemed to care about what was going on in South Africa?
