  2. Social Needs Defined People who in the event of an emergency are: • Vulnerable • At risk • Hard to reach • Not medically dependent

  3. Social Needs Defined This group may require: • Specialized communications • Specialized transportation, and • Do not require additional support at shelter

  4. Social Needs Defined People who are: • older adults or young children • economically disadvantaged • reliant on public transportation • isolated by culture or religion • isolated by a lack of access to or knowledge of technology • incarcerated • living in licensed residential facilities

  5. Social Needs Defined And people who have: • household pets or service animals • limited language proficiency • disabilities

  6. Social Needs Plan Register agencies and faith based groups that serve population.

  7. Social Needs Plan Communications – transmit information on emergency preparedness, response and recovery • CEAN • Channel 16 • Emergency Information Line (24 lines) & TTY • Local media • Outreach campaigns

  8. Social Needs Plan Transportation • Privately owned vehicles • Connector Bus • Public School Buses • FASTRAN • Collector points at the County’s Park and Ride lots.

  9. Social Needs Plan Household Pets • Transported with owners • Transported to the shelter • Cages for canines and felines • Muzzles and leashes will be required/provided • Service animals always accompany owners

  10. Social Needs Plan Shelter • Operated by the American Red Cross and the Department of Family Services • Locations will be determined by the incident

  11. Medical Needs Defined People with medical needs • have a high-risk health condition that is either temporary or chronic • cannot manage for themselves in a general shelter or evacuation center • require assistance in performing activities of daily living • require care for and the monitoring of a health condition

  12. Medical Needs Defined Examples: • People with mobility impairments • People with condition which make them dependent on electricity • People with medical conditions that will require additional support during emergencies

  13. Medical Needs Plan Registry • Online registry and downloadable forms • Stored on a confidential and secure server • Verify the information submitted • Annual confirmation • Assistance registering available

  14. Medical Needs Plan Communications – transmit information on emergency preparedness, response and recovery • CEAN • Channel 16 • Emergency Information Line (24 lines) & TTY • Local media • Outreach campaigns

  15. Medical Needs Plan Transportation • Privately owned vehicles • FASTRAN • Emergency Medical Service • Service animals and household pets will accompany the individual

Medical Needs Plan Shelter • Location determined by the incident • Housed at facilities separate from "general" shelters • Operated by the Department of Family Services and the American Red Cross • Staffed by individuals under contract and Department of Family Services' staff • Caregivers are expected to accompany the individual • Caregivers and dependent children will be allowed to accompany the individual • May be in nursing facilities • Additional sites
