  3. Idea 1: Roller Derby • New sport to come to South Africa, in operation for 4 years • Various teams created: Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, PE and recently in Grahamstown • Members are being sent for the first time to the “Derby World Cup” in Texas the end of this year

  4. Roller Derby • Angles and Points: • Purely a female sport (hardcore “chic”) • Creates new environment: socially, athletically, new imaginaries • Identities and alter-ego’s, vintage alternatives • Motherhood and derby

  7. Idea 2: Durban Markets • Bangladesh market, Victoria Street and Morning Market, Boot Car Trading • All various forms of markets, stemming from a past in an indentured labourers.. Socio-historical past that fought through variety of political struggles to maintain markets. • Very much a thing of pride for Durban community. Serves as a reminder of a disadvantaged community determined to survive against all odds.

  8. Durban Markets Angles: montage, human case studies, sustainability and popularity of markets, decades down the line. How far they have come in the struggle to keep markets & how these markets have flourished over the years into attraction sites for Durban tourists Generational legacy (passed down), become a lifestyle for many communities in Durban. The trading struggles to maintain these tourist sites with new laws and the municipality plight to rid street marketing for good (looking at the laws, illegal trading, how markets are moving forward and sustaining these trading sites)
