  3. What is GO THE TAN? The Event: GO THE TAN - Melbourne’s OFFICIAL Tan Time Trial Event What’s your Tan Time? The Tan, Melbourne’s famous running track, holds a special place in the hearts of all Melbournians. Most are well aware of their ‘Tan Time’ – their best time tackling the 3.8 kilometre track. So why pay an entry fee to run this public track once a year? Two reasons - firstly, as a personal fitness benchmark. To officially (on the record) and publically register your Tan time for the year. Compare yourself to your mates, your work colleagues, your favourite athlete or AFL star. Or just to your own time from last year. Secondly, to turn your routine fitness activity into something that counts for more, once a year. From professional athletes, to regular runners, social joggers to parents walking with prams, this is the opportunity to enjoy this iconic track whilst making a difference. GO THE TAN this year celebrates it’s 10th birthday and is officially endorsed by The City of Melbourneas the venue’s official time trial event for the people of Melbourne. This year the event (and it’s new sister event in Adelaide, Go The Torrens) supports Australia’s Rare Disease Alliance, One In A Millionin support of the ‘vast minority’ of Australians fighting a rare disease.
