  3. Polygon • A plane figure formed by three or more segments such that each segment intersects exactly two others, one at each endpoint, and no segments with a common endpoint are collinear. Yes, a polygon Not a polygon

  4. Polygon Names • BASED ON NUMBER OF SIDES 3 - Triangle 4 - Quadrilateral 5 - Pentagon 6 - Hexagon 7 - Heptagon 8 - Octagon 9 - Nonagon 10 - Decagon n - n-gon (11-gon, 53-gon)

  5. Polygon Vocabulary Exterior B A C Interior E D To name a polygon you can start at any point and go clockwise or counterclockwise as long as you stay in the correct order. (name then vertices) Ex: Pentagon ABCDE, AEDCB, DEABC, EDCBA

  6. Consecutive • Consecutive Angles – Angles next to each other (share a segment) • A & B; A & D • Consecutive Sides – Sides next to each other (share an endpoint) • AB & AD; AB & BC A B Name(based on number of sides?) D C

  7. Concave and Convex Polygons • Concave – at least one vertex points into the interior (caves in) • Convex – All vertices are pointing toward the exterior

  8. Equilateral, Equiangular, and Regular Polygons Equilateral – all sides in a polygon are congruent Equiangular – all angles in a polygon are congruent Regular – all sides and angles are congruent
