  3. John 10 1"I tell you the truth: the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep.

  4. Two Types of Sheep Care Takers • The shepherd of the sheep: enters by the gate • The thief or robber: climbs in by other way

  11. The Interpretation of the Story

  12. John 10 7Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth: I am the gate for the sheep. 8All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

  25. John 10 16I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

  27. John 10 17The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."

  34. The CHIEF Shepherd

  35. 1 Peter 5 • 1Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed,  2shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; • 3nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. • 4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

  39. Accountability • 17Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. (Heb. 13:17)
