2. In the year 2000 world leaders, including the Australian Government, committed to meet eight Millennium Development Goals and pledged to halve world poverty by 2015. As we look back there is much to celebrate, we are seeing change in our world. For example, the number of children dying has decreased from more than 10 million kids in recent years; last year an extra 400,000 children survived to their 5th birthday than in 2008, and 9 out of 10 children now complete a full primary education. A ‘Survive Past Five’ birthday party is a great way to celebrate this progress and at the same time, show our leaders that people around Australia want our Government to meet our commitment to achieving the MDGs to halve global poverty by 2015.
