  2. 2nd Quarter Highlights • THREDDS Data Server Version 4 installed in the NERACOOS, SECOORA, SCCOOS and PACIOOS regions, serving native-grid forecast model results with CF Conventions. • The TDS4 Forecast Model Run Collection and WMS (ncWMS) for non-uniform grid model results successfully implemented in the SECOORA region (working with Ruoying He, NCSTATE). • IOOS Model Data Interoperability Working Group (Google Group) formed (34 members currently). The group is discussing technical issues concerning standards-based delivery and access of model data. • Unstructured Grid Interoperability Working Group (Google Group) formed (17 members currently). The group is developing a draft standard for unstructured grid data. A prototype was successfully demonstrated via web services using NcML and the THREDD Data Sever, using original data from the ADCIRC, FVCOM, ELCIRC and SELFE models.

  4. 3rd Quarter Plans • THREDDS Data Server Version 4 installed in three more regions (GLOS, NANOOS, and AOOS), serving native-grid forecast model results with CF Conventions. • Installation of Forecast Model Run Collection and WMS capability in all regions with TDS4 installed. • Working in collaboration with Continue working with the Unstructured Grid Interoperability Working Group (Google Group) formed (17 members currently). • Development of a unstructured grid class for the NetCDF-Java library, working with Unidata and Antonio Baptista (Oregon Health & Science University and lead of the NSF Coastal Margin Observation and Prediction Science and Technology Center). This will facilitate development of both the standard and clients built to work with the standard. • Release MatlabNetCDF-Java toolkit 1.0 on Source Forge.

  5. Challenges • THREDDS Data Server Version 4 is currently beta software, so cannot yet be used by operational National Backbone providers. This will be resolved in the 3rd Quarter with release of a stable release of TDS4. • Community development and testing of unstructured grid standard depends on volunteer effort, so schedule is uncertain. • Where to document model data interoperability efforts? • There is a strong need for development work by a Java programmer experienced in NetCDF-Java and ocean data models. One solution: find multi-year support funds for a java programmer working at Unidata to support ocean science development.
