  3. http://emedia.rmit.edu.au/learninglab/content/revision

  4. How do you revise? • Reread class notes – this may be too passive if it is the only revision method used. • Games and Puzzles • Hangman • What am I ? (based on Who am I?), could be cell organelles and their structure or functions, processes • Crosswords • Interactive puzzles & quizzes Make use of key words and key ideas from the text

  5. Organisation of Information • Tables • Charts • Diagrams • Flow charts • Concept maps or • Mind Maps

  6. Table of CellOrganelles http://rninprogress.blogspot.com.au/2010/09/cellular-adaptation.html

  7. Venn Diagram Animal & Plant Cells • Shows similarities and differences http://www.i-pathways.org/instruction/samples/scienceSample/science_u2_l1/p2.html Add another circle for prokaryotic cells

  8. Concept Map or Mind Maps • A graphic organiser • Can be hand written • Or use software such as http://cmap.ihmc.us/ • Cut and paste with paper or post it notes

  9. Interactive Learning • The internet allows for many opportunities to learning interactively. Some examples are listed below www.cellsalive.com This website has many different interactive activities. http://www.wisc-online.com/Objects/ViewObject.aspx?ID=AP1101Build a call membrane http://www.biologycorner.com/bio1/index.html

  10. Analogies • See Cell City Analogy worksheet. What other analogies can you think of for cell biology? Can you think of an analogy for a cell membrane?

  11. Word Association • Mnemonics For Example: The planets of the solar system Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune My very earthy mother just served us noodles. An Example for the four stages of Mitosis:Prophase: Chromosomes and spindles are Produced.Metaphase: chromosomes MetAlign themselves.Anaphase: [Ana] divorced or separated.Telophase: Tell-O'Brien his daughter cells are ready. Can you think of another mnemonic for the phases of mitosis

  12. Word Association cont. • Don’t get confused by different names Examples Golgi Apparatus is the same as Golgi Complex and Golgi Body Nucleus membrane is the same as Nuclear envelope Can you think of any other examples?

  13. Word Association cont. • Break down and simplify words Example Do you find it difficult to remember the difference between Hydrophobic and Hydrophilic and their definitions. HYDROPHOBIC HYDRO = Water PHOBIC = Phobia = Fear Hydrophobic is water hating, = insoluble in water. Therefore Hydrophilic is water loving, = soluble in water. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=6wM692T2BXM&NR=1
