JOHN DEWEY LIFE’S SKETCH • - he is one of the greatest American Modern thinkers, educationist and philosophers , whose philosophy of education is based on Pragmatism and experimentalism. • - he was born in 1859 in Vermont, USA. • -brought up in a rural environment. • -he graduated from the university of Vermont. Later on he joined the Hopkins University and did his PhD in philosophy. • - after that he was appointed as the lecturer in the University of Michigan and held this post till 1894. the same year he was appointed as the Head of the philosophy Department in the University of Chicago.

  3. His laboratory school -in 1896 he founded his laboratory schools in the university which exercised a remarkable influenced on the educational theory and practices in America. Through this laboratory school he wanted to create supportive and interactive learning community that fostered the social and intellectual growth of students. In these school he applied and tested his educational hypothesis, educational philosophy and educational theories. It was this school which brought him world famous. -In 1904, he was appointed as professor of philosophy at the university of Colombia. During his stay at Columbia he visited various countries like Japan, china , turkey and Russia.

  4. He gave a wide influenced and suggestion to the course of education of these countries. • He died in 1952. some of his important works are: school and society, Democracy and Education, Schools of tomorrow, The child and the curriculum, education today, etc.
