  3. Rule One: • Raise your hand to speak. Rationale: If student’s just talked whenever they wanted to the classroom would have no order and it would become too rowdy.

  4. Rule Two: • Ask me, before you leave your seat. Rationale: If students ask me before they get up I know where they are and it keeps them on task because they won’t be all over the place.

  5. Rule Three: • Be nice and sweet, kindness is a treat. Rationale: If all of the students are nice to each other there will be less problems, and the classroom should be a safe place, where everyone treats everyone with respect.

  7. Portfolio Page 1:3. How Will I Teach The Rules? I will use a rule word game to teach the rules of my classroom. • 1. I will write the rules on the board and introduce them to the class. • 2. I will write rules in short segments on index cards, such as “Ask me," “before you" and “leave your seat" on three separate cards. • 3. Then, I will scramble several of the rules together and have my students construct each rule correctly. • 4. Next, the students will all have five minutes to unscramble their cards and put them in the correct order. The first group (my students will sit in groups of four) to get all of their cards unscrambled wins. • 5. Then, each group will pick one person to read out the rules they unscrambled. • 6. So, by doing this we will review the rules and the students will learn them but, have fun at the same time.

  10. Portfolio Page 2:3.Rationale For My Classroom Layout • I put my students in groups because, I don’t like the desks that have cubbies built in. They become very messy and unsanitary. Also, group learning is very effective and that is how I want my students to learn. So, instead of having cubbies the students will have a plastic sleeve on the back of their chairs to hold all of their stuff. I When they have tests or quizzes the students can just cover their papers. • I put my desk by the door so I can see who comes and who goes. From my desk I will also be able to look up and see everyone. I also placed my problem students near my desk so that I can keep a close eye on them. • I paired my ESOL & ESE students with my two top excelling students so that they have some extra help and a good helper. • I also put in a reading carpet and rocking chair for when we have reading time so, we can all sit together as a class. • I also have a ‘Self-Control Area’ desk for any of my misbehaving students. It’s in the corner so the student is separated and can truly think of what they’ve done wrong.

  11. Portfolio Page 3: Rewards & Consequences • 1. My Systems: • Rewards: • If a student follows the rules and has good behavior all week then, on Friday they will get to visit the treasure box. The treasure box will be filled with assortments of candy and little trinkets and the student can choose one. Students will be permitted to get consequence 1 and still be able to get their reward. But, if they get consequence 2 or more they will lose their reward for that week. • Consequences: • The 1st time a student misbehaves they will receive a non-verbal warning. The 2nd time they will receive a verbal warning. The 3rd time the student will have to visit the self-control area where they will be separated from the class and have a chance to think of what they did. They will write, on a provided index card, why they were sent to the self-control are and how they are going to change their behavior to make it good. The 4th time the student will be sent to the principal’s office with a referral and they will receive a call home.

How My Class Will Handle: • Passing out papers: • The students will be in groups so I will ask the students to do something, like nose goes, and pick one person to bring me the papers. • Bathroom Breaks: • I will have two hall passes, a girl hall pass and a boy hall pass, and when a student needs to go to the restroom or get a drink of water they will take the hall pass with them (It will be on a string that they can put around their neck). But, only one boy and one girl can be out at a time.

  14. How My Class Will Handle: • Sharpening Pencils: • One of my rules is that you must raise your hand and ask me before you leave your seat. So, my students can simply raise their hand and ask for permission, and then go and sharpen their pencils with the pencil sharpener on my desk. • Getting supplies and books: • The students will have plastic organizer sleeves on the back of their chairs that should have everything they need. If the don’t have it I will pass it out.

  15. How My Class Will Handle: • Taking attendance: • I will have a seating chart and do attendance with that when I get a chance (For example, when they are doing a worksheet and I am at my desk). If a student is late I will also mark it on my seating chart. • Turning in work: • I will have a bin on my desk where I collect all of their papers and I can pass back papers in the beginning of class.

  16. How My Class Will Handle: • Dismissing Class: • Whenever we are going to lunch or to an elective we line up at the door. I will pick different line leaders and cabooses every month and their job is to keep their classmates in check and remind them to stay quiet. At the end of the day the student will stay seated until the bell, then they can leave.
