  19. We Need • To reach students at a younger age • To help Latino and white students become more aware of how drugs affect study habits and grades • To help our female students with stress at home and at school

  21. STRONGER PREVENTION PROGRAMS • Tailored toward students who use drugs almost every day • Focused on 10-14 year olds • Random drug testing for “recruitment”

  22. WORKSHOPS FOR 4TH-8TH GRADE TEACHERS • Inform about their student’s drug use • Strategies to identify drug users • Strategies to help students get help • Continuing support

  23. SPEAKER AND THEN SOME • Motivational and emotional speaker • Move into small groups afterward • Group leader is trained to identify drug users • Follow-up strategy with identified students

Chosen Solution: Speaker and Then Some • Easily be tailored to 10-14 year olds • Small groups can identify users quickly • Presentation can be cultural and focused on social affects and study habits • Group leader can start by talking about school stress • Challenge: How to make sure students don’t realize what’s happening
