  1. OSM & Micro Mobility Mapping with Kick Scooter thibaud.michel@gmail.com - INRIA (FR)

  2. The problem How design a train station (or an indoor building) OSM network?

  3. A bad solution With Satellite Images ?

  4. A bad solution With GPS Locations?

  5. Good solutions • With a building plan • With a dumpy level and a compass OR …

  6. Ride with a kick scooter • Use a Kick Scooter(works with a bike too) • Put some sensors • Odometer on the wheel • Gyro on the handlebar • Link to an Android

  7. Sensors on kick scooter OR Phone gyroscope BLE gyroscope + Speed cadence bike sensor Magnets

  8. Grenoble train station video sample

  9. Summary Introduction • Focus on our prototype Limits and future works

  10. User Process • On Android Smartphone • Start Scootmeter application • Select a start point. • Drive to build the network then save it • On Computer • Import OSM file in JOSM • Rework and link the new network to planet • Upload it to OSM servers

  11. Prepare the drive • Start Scootmeter Application • Choose a start point by • Clicking on OSM map • Entering latitude and longitude coordinates • Waiting GPS Signal • Wait an accurate bearing provided by gyroscope sensor • Start the drive

  12. Prepare the drive

  13. Drive and Create • Drive thinking your are creating an OSM document. • Add POIs on your ride (toilets, tickets machines …) • Add pairs of key/value of your POIs • Begin a new way starting from a POI • Add pairs of key/value of your ways

  14. Drive and Create

  15. Rework and Link • An OSM documentiscreatedwhen drive finished • Sendit by mail • Retrieveit on SD Card • Open itwithJOSM over existing network • If needed : • Adjuststart point on existing network by translatting all new network • Add, Remove, Modifykey/value of nodes, ways

  16. Rework and Link

  17. Summary Introduction Focus on our prototype • Limits and future works

  18. Reliability and limits of sensors Offset + 270° Offset bearing • Our kick scooter characteristics: • Wheel circumference: 55cm • 1 odometer ant sensor • 5 magnets on the wheel • Xperia S’s gyroscope Offset + 180° Offset + 90°

  19. Future works • Wait for more accurate gyroscope sensors • Use new Bluetooth Low Energy sensors with Android 4.3 • Use a navigation system on Smartphone based on kick-scooter sensors

  20. Future works • Project with Japan Railways • 3 train stations - Nov. 2013 • 200 train stations - ??? 2015

  21. End.
