These activities involve liaison with different organisations – • Energy efficiency agencies • Renewable energy bodies • Fuel poverty lobbyists • EC Joint Research Centre • BEAMA and the JRC organised a recent seminar on the role of metering at a European level for energy efficiency, demand response and renewables.

ESCO Directive • Article 13 of this draft directive calls for accurate and timely billing for all metering points • Would transform the market for advanced metering in most EU states • Is being met with opposition by the energy supplier lobby • There is no European based metering lobby • The Directive drafted and supported by the EC JRC

DTI Project – metering and monitoring of embedded generation • Working with EdF, Good Energy, Npower and Elster, EA Technology • 200 sites being monitored • microCHP • Photovoltaic • Micro-wind • Micro -hydro • Measuring half hour import/export and generation • Gathering data for NHH profiling of exports • Objective is to establish the need for full half hour metering of these sites
