  6. Alberto Giacometti1901-1966 • Born in Switzerland & studied art in Paris • Known as one of the leading ‘surrealist’ sculptors. • “Surrealism” focused on subconscious thoughts and dream like visions

  7. Giacometti worked obsessively on his figures until he had all but carved them away

  8. Ivan Lovatt • Known for his artistic use of chicken wire of famous people

  9. Ruth Asawa • Nationally known for her wire sculpture • Called the “fountain lady” because of all her public fountains

  10. Corinne Okada • Artwork uses mixed materials and raises ideas about culture, fragments of memories, and the materials themselves • Also a fashion designer

  11. Pliers Wire Gauge Contour • tool used for turning, bending and sometimes cutting wire • how thick or thin the wire is. 16 gauge wire is thicker than 20 gauge wire. • a line that creates the outside edge of a shape

  15. Your assignment: • Draw a detailed and ‘to scale’ drawing of an animal. It should be drawn from a real animal but feel free to add your own creative designs and shapes. (1-2 classes) • Using wire and your drawing, you will create a 3 dimensional animal that has character and details. • If you know what animal you’d like to work with, bring in a book or picture of it. Otherwise you will have to use what I have available. Bring those pictures in ASAP!
