  2. Answer • During germination, the seed coat softens up from soaking in water, and the plant inside emerges as a shoot pushing up through the soil.

  6. Structure • A structure is a part of a system. • Structures provide organization for an object (living or non-living). • Examples of plant structures: root, stem, leaf, flower.

  7. Function • Function refers to the job or work that it does. • Example: One function of a stem is to hold a plant up.

  8. What is a flower? • A flower is the part of the plant that makes the seeds.

  9. There are four main parts of a flowering plant. flower leaves stem roots

  10. Root • The roots • absorb water from the soil • anchor the plant • absorb minerals from the soil. root

  11. Stem The stem supports the plant and transports water and minerals. stem

  12. Leaf • The leaves use sunlight to make food for the plant. • They also let in carbon dioxide through tiny openings. leaves

  13. Flower The flower helps the plant to reproduce by making new seeds. flower

  15. They reproduce by the process of pollination. • Pollen from the MALE part of one plant must transfer to the FEMALE part of a different plant.
