  2. Good Morning/Afternoon! • Turn in extra credit- drawings of Safety Rules • Have out your journals and pen/pencil

  3. Agenda • Pass out Science Books • Introduction of Unit A • What is hazardous? • Activity 1- intro • Video clip • Exit Slip • Homework

  4. Objective • Students will be able to develop a list of ways to safely handle unlabeled substance and understand what is hazardous.

  5. Unit A:Studying Materials Scientifically • Please turn to pg 15 in your journal • Create a title page for Unit A, write the title large • Turn to pg A-3 • Answer the question on back of title page: How can these properties help to identify unknown samples?

  6. Hazardous • What does it mean when a substance is considered Hazardous? • What hazard substances can you name? • How do you know if a substance is hazardous?

  7. What is Evidence? • A fact or piece of information that helps you come to a conclusion.

  9. Jar • How many different substances do you think are in the jar? • What is your evidence? • Evidence Is the information gained by observation or another source which can be used to formulate an idea. Draw a picture of the jar-draw the exact items inside the jar.

  10. What is a Mixture? • A combination of more than one pure substance that can be physically separated.

  11. Observations • Based on your observations, do you think this is a mixture or a pure substance? • What is your evidence? • Explain why. • Write your response on the dry erase board for your group • Spokesperson be ready!

  12. Video Clip • As you are watching the video clip: • Write in your journal: 5 steps that the team takes while handling the substances Double check your steps after watching the video the second time.
