External Debt • External debt is unsustainable, estimated at US$ 28.4 billion at the end of the year 2006representing about 86% of export and 77% of GDP. • A strong and sustained track record of sound economic policies as shown by the IMF Staff Monitored Programs. • Yet the country was deprived from accessing any debt reduction facility such as the HIPCs

  11. JAM Clusters Performance Institutional Development and Capacity Building: • the National Civil Service Commission established. • Technical Assistance Framework established. • The Civil Service Act enacted, Anti-corruption legislature passed, new procurement procedures established.

  14. JAM Clusters Performance Infrastructure: • With own resources government have invested considerably in roads and power. With public investments of US$ 671 million in electricity, about 67.6 MW capacity was installed, and 60% of work was done to generate 2,066 MW, thereby adding about five folds of power installed since independence.

JAM Clusters Performance Infrastructure cont..1: • About 702 km of power transmission lines were constructed and progress on the construction one of the longest 3,100 km transmission line in the country linking for the first time western Sudan to the national grid is advanced. • Total investments of US$ 845 million, around 1,193.3 km national asphalt roads were constructed and 1,023 were rehabilitated, representing 37.5 % of the total existing asphalt roads in Sudan (6,000 km).

JAM Clusters Performance Infrastructure ..2: • As for the joint efforts with donor assistance, the National Emergency Transport Rehabilitation Project has started with MDTF-N funding. • Amongst others, 63 km of the Babanousa – Wau rail line have been rehabilitated and de mined, and the preparations for the construction of a number of roads are in their final stage.

  17. JAM Clusters Performance Social Protection: • An estimated 1,488,000 displaced persons, returned home. • Early reintegration assistance and protection provided to nearly 2 million returning population and receiving communities.

JAM Clusters Performance Social Protection cont..2: • Of the 2,319 dangerous areas identified through survey activities, 952 have been cleared. • A total of 4,734 anti-personnel mines and 2,172 anti-tank mines, 922,265 unexploded ordnance and small arms ammunition destroyed. • Mine Risk Education has been provided to 1,638,008 persons.
