Gobind Sadan

Gobind Sadan a living interfaith spiritual community founded by Baba Virsa Singh on the outskirts of New Delhi, India—is like paradise to me and many who come here. I am Mary Pat Fisher, author of Living Religions and other college textbooks on religion. I have never seen another place like Gobind Sadan anywhere in the world. It gives practical expression to Babaji’s mission, demonstrating the oneness of religions, the oneness of all prophets, the power of faith in God, true spirituality, work as worship, empowerment of the poor and weak, and the oneness of our human family.<br>

  2. Gobind Sadan Gobind Sadan—a living interfaith spiritual community founded by Baba Virsa Singh on the outskirts of New Delhi, India—is like paradise to me and many who come here. I am Mary Pat Fisher, author of Living Religions and other college textbooks on religion. I have never seen another place like Gobind Sadan anywhere in the world. It gives practical expression to Babaji’s mission, demonstrating the oneness of religions, the oneness of all prophets, the power of faith in God, true spirituality, work as worship, empowerment of the poor and weak, and the oneness of our human family.

  3. Babaji left his physical body on December 24, 2007, but he is quite present with us and continuing to manage everything. We call him “Maharaj,” “The Great King,” for he is a tremendously powerful spiritual teacher. We are a cross-section of humanity: wealthy and poor, highly educated and illiterate, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and Buddhists, from India and many other countries. By Maharaj Ji’s inspiration, we live, work, and worship together as members of one human family. Devotions go on night and day in many sacred places here our several havans (sacred fires), Darbar Sahib, mosque, Jesus’ Place, temples to many deities, Buddha and Mahavir’s pavilion, and the Sh’ma Place of Jewish worship according to Maharaj Ji’s directions. Miracles of healing and transformation happen all the time in this genuine spiritual atmosphere.

This website is devoted to my own impressions of Gobind Sadan since I first came here to live in 1991. I have seen many places and teachers in the world, but nothing impresses me so much as Gobind Sadan and Maharaj Ji.   5. Children’s Interfaith plays • Babaji dearly loves children and is giving great emphasis to their education. Thus we have developed a number of educational programmes for the poor children in and around Gobind Sadan, including interfaith education classes as well as academic studies, and also simple classes and activities conveying Babaji’s teachings. The children pick up things very fast and are a delight to work with. They love acting out stories, so every Sunday afternoon, many Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh children come voluntarily to participate in plays from all religions and to discuss their meanings.

  7. Words of Faith These are articles short and long about the spiritual life, as seen through the lens of various religions. Some are short talks I prepared for a BBC World Service series entitled "Words of Faith." Some are talks I have given here and there. Always they are grounded in what I have learned at the feet of Baba Virsa Singh Ji Maharaj.

  8. In the Presence When I first came to Gobind Sadan, a unique interfaith spiritual community, I asked our great teacher, Baba Virsa Singh Ji, to unite me with God. He replied, “Don’t you know that you are always united with Him? Where can you go that He is not?” Here at Gobind Sadan this Presence is palpable. It is our life.

  10. Spiritual Messages from Maharaj Ji • Long before I met Him in His temporary physical form as Baba Virsa Singh Ji, Maharaj Ji has been guiding me from inside. Now that He is no longer in that physical body, he continues to do so. On request, He sometimes gives very touching and true messages for specific purposes. Some of these will be posted on Stories from Paradise from time to time so that more people can benefit from His eternal wisdom.
