  3. Overview • Head-Smashed In Buffalo Jump • Frank Slide Interpretive Centre • Bellevue Underground Mine • Fort McLeod NWMP museum • The Great Canadian Barn Dance • Kayben Sunshine Adventure Park

  4. Outcomes This exciting three-day program will include/promote the following: • rapport building through initiative tasks and team building activities. • self-awareness, acceptance of others, and leadership skills. • an understanding/perspective of local First Nations culture • immersion in Alberta History and real-world, hands-on experiences connected to topics from the Grade 4 curriculum • physical activity through hiking and games. • outdoor exploration.

Logistics • Attendance and loading the bus at 8:45 AM • Departure from Connect is at 9:00 AM (you will need to provide transportation to Connect) • 4.1/4.2 leaves June 3rd • 4.3/4.4 leaves June 4th • Please up your child at 4:00 PM 2 days later (you will need to provide transportation from Connect)

Student Expectations • Preparedness • Please help your child plan for the trip ahead of time by making sure that they organize and pack all of their own gear and clothing (stuff sacks recommended) • Practice rolling sleeping pads and stuffing sleeping bags is appreciated! • Behaviour • Please take a moment to speak with your child about respectful behaviour when visiting public places – there will be general public at most venues as well and we are ambassadors for the school community • Respect for Volunteers and Guides • This is a community building trip – we will continue to emphasize inclusive and thoughtful social interactions

  7. Potential Risks • Transportation • Historic Site visits • Hiking / outdoor excursions • Unforeseen incidents • Lake (no swimming)

  8. Equipment List***students must be able to keep track and carry all of their belongings*** All items should fit in 2 bags (luggage or packsack and day pack, plus sleeping gear) Light day pack with every-day items strongly recommended.

Equipment List • Clothing – warm pajamas, warm jacket, waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes • Personal Care – lip balm, sunscreen, toothbrush and toothpaste • Sleeping gear - good quality sleeping pad!! • Food Items –bagged lunch, 5-10 nut-free snacks to share – fruit/veggies encouraged • Day pack Items • Water bottle • Sunglasses • Lip Balm • Bug spray • Rain jacket • Book • Fun Money: MAXIMUM of $20 for spending in gift shops • PLEASE DO NOT SEND ELECTRONIC DEVICES: TOYS, or CELLPHONES, etc. • Students will be loading and unloading all of their own gear.

FOOD • 3 lunches • Bagged lunch (waste free) from home • 6” Subway sandwich (Ham, Cold Cut Combo, Pizza or Veggie) • Kayben Farms Sandwich Buffet (g-free and vegetarian options are available) • 2 dinners • Lasagna and garlic bread with veggie tray and juice and fruit cups for dessert • Roast beef, baked potato, cole slaw, mixed vegetable, baked beans, dinner buns and apple crisp with ice cream for dessert • Hot chocolate, fruit & cookies for night time snack • 2 breakfasts • Cereal, fruit cups, toast and juice • Pancakes, hash browns and sausages

  11. Snacks • Please send 5-10 *nut free snacks with your child • These will be shared with classmates throughout our trip • Fruit and Veggies are welcomed as options but please keep coolers and storage in mind

Bedtime • Separate boys and girls sleeping areas at both venues • Quiet time at 11:00 pm – stay in your bed • Both locations have students, teachers and sleeping on the floor • Please make sure foamy or air mattress are functional and sleeping bags are warm • Rise and Shine is announced by the teachers

  13. Volunteer F.A.Q. • Will I get to spend time with my child? • Do I need a lunch? • What should I wear? • Will I have to teach? • What is my time commitment? • What will I need to do?

Volunteer Expectations • be alert at all times of potential dangers to our students (safety first) • help ensure a worthwhile learning experience is had by all students • assist the teacher(s) in achieving educational objectives • allow opportunities for parents to participate in their child’s educational experiences • At all times, parents have a supervisory role of their assigned group of students • Ensure all luggage/ coolers are taken off the bus upon arrival back at school • Differing roles will be assigned, ie: ensuring G-free meals are delivered to students, medication is received etc.

Before you leave: • Before you leave please: • Pick up your child’s information package from the table (Return by May 7th) • Pick up a volunteer package if you are interested (Return by May 7th) • Some will have to drive in their own vehicles or arrange carpooling • Reimbursement for fuel only • Volunteer clearance must be completed • In the next few weeks please: • Talk to your child about what they can look forward to on their upcoming trip • Practice packing and organizing • Drive safely!
