  1. SteelGaming • William Belime • Game Designer • Shakti Sahni • Game Artist

  2. Constraints • Chosen: • Random Board • Semi-information • Imposed: • 1-4 players +1 AI • Playable in the transports (car/plane/train/boat)

  3. Pitch • Space scientists have found a new Exoplanet with, apparently, intelligent life on it. • They have sent the best explorers from all over the world to explore this planet. But, on arriving at the destination, they had crashed their spaceship. • They are stuck on the planet and they have to wait till the AI repairs the ship. But unfortunately, as it was damaged during the crash, it became bipolar and random. • The Explorers have to fulfill their mission and survive until the AI repaired the ship to come back on Earth.

  4. The main pieces • 1 magnetic hexagonal board with two playable faces • The board contains 5 non removable hexagons: • They will be the start of the players • Small magnetic hexagons which will cover the board’s faces • 5playermagnetic pawns + 1 • Cards

  5. Boards illustration Upper world board Face up Underground world board Face down

  6. The hexagons pieces • These small hexagons have 2 faces: • The fog • Non playable face • The playable faces • The route (nothing special, just a route) • Enemies (fight) • Mighty resources (to get the sympathies of the aliens) • The craftable materials • Civilization (Alien Capital) • Cave (only in place where we find the resources and in quantities) • The Holy Artifact

  7. Goals • Explorer: Reach and sympathize with more Alien civilizations before the others, until the ship is repaired. • AI/Drone: Counter the Explorers to come back on Earth before the ship is repaired. The drone has to kill them 5 times each.

  8. Gameplay Mechanisms : Actions Points • An hexagonal board and movement to give an exploration feeling • The players use Action Points (AP) • To reveal pieces of the board, moving, digging (when block by a wall), fighting, craftingand picking stuffs. • Each actions have a higher or lower price. • The fight price depends on the enemy • AP + attack stats > defense stats of the monster • If not • Attack points of the monster – (AP + attack stats) = Damages

  9. Gameplay Mechanisms • During the Pregame, the board is built randomly to make a different map each time • When the Holy Artifact is found, the player who has it, can reverse the board and all the players go to Underworld: • New civilizations • Stronger enemies • AP more expensive • The game finishes after a certain number of turn • 50 basically

  10. Gameplay Mechanisms (Aliens) • The Aliens give different and random missions to gain their sympathies. • Only known by the player who gets into the Alien’s Capital • Written on cards • Could be: • Bring the skin of an animal • Bring a mighty resource/artifact • Kill another player • Stealthy or not • Some will give single or multiple difficult missions if you had sympathies with another civilization which they hate.

  11. Gameplay Mechanisms : Explorers Stats • All of the Explorers are different : • Stats • Health • Defense • Agility • Move • Diplomacy • Stats • Health • Defense • Agility • Diplomacy

  12. Gameplay Mechanisms : Explorers capacities • Capacities • Chosenfrom 2 available by the player • Written on the explorer’s character card: • Weapons type • Diplomacy • Exploration • Thief/Lucky • And others • Increases the player’s stats secretly

  13. Gameplay Mechanisms :Explorers actions • Use these action points to: • Move • Reveal hexagons • Pick resources • For Aliens • To craft • Attack • Dig • Craft • They have 15 action points to use • If the Explorer move without revealing and it’s an enemy, their Attack and Defense gets subtracted.

  14. Gameplay Mechanisms :AI Random • Random: can be nice / can be bad • Nice • Bonuses to the Explorers • Reveals 3 hexagons at one range of the explorers • Up of 1 or 2 stats • Heal • Give free craft resources • Increase the ship’s repairing

  15. Gameplay Mechanisms AI Random • Bad • Malus to the explorers • Decrease one stat • Increase the strength of aliens enemies • Re put the fog on the 5 last revealed hexagons • Instant kill an explorer or all of them • Decrease the repairing of 1 or more • Increase the stats of the drone • Activated after 5 turns • Play after the drone’s turn

  16. Gameplay Mechanisms :playable AI • Can be a playable character • Drone • Use action points to: • Pop enemies • Move items • Put a fog behind him against action points • Transform the map itself • Not with an explorer on the hexagon • Sometimes supported by the AI • Turn starts after all the explorer played 1 turn

  17. Target • Open to a large public • For Sci-Fi/adventure likers • Since 12 years old players • With a certain tactical logic

  20. Walkthrough

  21. Pregame • The players built randomly the boards by putting the face down of the small hexagons • They shuffle the cards pack by pack • Then they choose one Explorer or the Drone. • Put their character to their respawn point • The players place the last pawn on the countdown square 0 • The American Explorer starts • The game runs clockwise

  22. One turn • Explorer • Use his action points to • Reveal hexagons • Move • Attack • Dig • Pick stuff • Craft • Make contact with a civilization and gain a new mission • Or finish the mission that they gave to him • Using the Holy Artifact (if he has) • X 4 (each player)
