What Walmart has to Offer Started out working as a part time cashier during college in 1992 Stayed with company after graduation because of the opportunities of advancement that gave a real chance at success Was able to gradually work his way into management starting out as the department manager of sporting goods.

    4. Career Milestones After working as a department manager for three years, he was selected by upper management to enter the management training program 14 week training course Relocation to a open position is awarded after successfully completing the course

    5. Climbing to the Top First position was Assistant Store Manager in 1996 After working 3 years as an Assistant Manager he offered a position as a store manager In 2001 had worked his way to District Manager, was chosen among 5 other candidates

    6. Attributes of Success “The people I have worked with throughout my career have taught me so much and I have learned from every single one of them. I would not be where I am today if its wasn’t for them.” Jeff Barnard

    7. Attributes cont. Mentorship and Teamwork Allowed continual development in professional and personal growth. Store Managers will take associates who they believe have great potential to excel at a higher level and work to develop the essential skills needed to go to the next level

Duties of District Manager Oversees stores in the district Handles major problems at the stores Makes sure stores are running properly and profitably Handles customer problems that cannot be handled by store managers Makes sure the stores are following the safety compliance by the state and corporation

    9. Duties cont. The district headquarters are located in Jonesville, Michigan Frequently makes in store appearances Occasionally travels to meet with other managers (district, regional, executive) around the country
