  6. Just like in English, we modify our nouns to show when there is more than one involved. In English, most of the time we simply add S to the end of the word. There are LOTS of exceptions to that rule in English, though! 

  7. Rules and Exceptions • Spanish has only 3 rules and 2 exceptions to those rules. It’s pretty easy to remember once you get the hang of it...

  8. Rule #1 • If a word ends with a vowel, you simply add S to the end of the word. • abrazo • gato  • maestro  • oso  • pollo  • maestra 

  9. Rule #2 • If a word ends with a consonant, you add ES to the end of the word. • canción • actor  • doctor  • papel  • corazón 

  10. Exceptions • Any word that ends with a Z must change the Z to a C and then follow Rule #2. • lápiz • The article el (which means “the”) does not follow Rule 1 or Rule 2. It changes to los.

  11. Rule #3 • Don’t forget, if you change a word’s number, you have to change the article before the word so it all matches! • el  • la 

  12. Let’s try these together... • el gato • la vaca  • la medicina  • el perro  • el escritorio  • el triangulo 
