  2. Overview of Proposed Changes • Additional classroom space • New office space • Ventilation/Circulation system upgrade • Replacement of single-pane windows • Increased storage

Additional Classroom Space • As the result of the recent addition of preschool, HMS has become crowded. • The special education space is tighter. • The reading team is utilizing a space designed for storage. • The custodians lost their office. • Preschool is now in a small space originally designed for the Learning Center.

  4. Thus, educationally speaking… • The addition of an extra classroom would allow either preschool or another class to inhabit new space. • It would allow the special education personnel to finally be able to utilize proper office space and allow for extra instructional space for one-on-one situations. • It may provide extra storage space that is greatly needed. • We may be able to move the Reading Team back into space not designed for storage.

  5. New Office Space • The reception area in the HMS office is minimal. • The Nurse’s Office is exceedingly small and inadequate, lacking privacy and bathroom facilities. • HMS has no functional conference room with privacy. There is no space for more than six adults comfortably.

  6. Thus, educationally speaking… • We would build an office space of approximately 1650 square feet. • Principal’s Office: 200 square feet • Nurse’s office: 250 square feet • Conference Room: 350 square feet • Administrative Asst. and Core space: 600 square feet • Storage: 250 square feet

  7. Ventilation/Circulation System Upgrade • Our Heating and Ventilation system consists of air circulation of about 10 CFM in classrooms and common areas. • The school building standard is 21 CFM. • Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM): A unit of measurement. The volume or rate of airflow.

  8. Other HVAC options • Air conditioning to the library or other second floor areas. • Digital system for boilers and mechanical systems to improve operational efficiency and control

  9. Thus, educationally speaking… • The upgrade of our HVAC system would be much healthier for both adults and children. We currently have sub par air circulation. • We are likely to save money over time with a more efficient system

  10. Replacement of Single-Pane Windows • Our older, second floor section has very old and inefficient windows • Replace these windows as well as the windows by the music room entrance. • For example, 2002-03 fuel costs: • HMS: $14,963 or $.32/sq. ft. • HMHS: $18,773 or $.25/sq. ft.

  11. Thus, educationally speaking… • The replacement of these windows… • Will result in major cost savings over time. • Will allow for temperature to be much more even throughout the building

  12. In conclusion… • Additional classroom space • New office space • Ventilation/Circulation System Upgrade • Replacement of single-pane windows • Increased storage
