  1. Sec 3 EFL : Taman Negara Done by : Akalya (15)Koh Hui Yu (18) Shavithiya (34) Shienny Genial (35) Sinthu (36)

  2. Hypothesis If the approval of Sec 3 EFL is due to : • budget being low enough, then reducing the cost of the program • high risk factor, then reducing the risk factor • little amount of learning issues, then proving that there are more learning issues than stated, such that it meets the school’s constrains will result in it being approved.

  3. Process

  4. Preparations • How did we prepare ourselves for PBL - Classroom Discussions :Analysed the problem and created our hypothesis - Dividing our work amongst ourselves. - Wrote down what we need to find out from EFL - During EFL : Review of the things we learnt everyday during EFL ( E.g Safety equipments used ) SOLVE THE PROBLEM ! Link the information to the hypothesis

  5. Process (Cost) • How did we go about finding our information? • Held discussions • Tried to find information via Internet • Interviewed Mr. Francis • Called the Tanjong Pagar train station DEBATES We tried to find out the exact prices of the activities on the internet to no avail. Forming a solution,FAST! Having a discussion

  6. Process ( Risk Factor ) • How did we form a solution? • During EFL : Took note of the various safety measures taken by the trainers ( E.g different instructions given ) • We tried to notice if anybody was injured during EFL

  7. After EFL : • Re-cap of EFL activities We listed down the safety equipment that was used (E.g Carabiner, Harness ) We also listed down the possible areas where danger could arise ON OUR WAY TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM !

  8. Process (Learning Issues) • How did we form a solution? • After EFL : Reviewed all activities Try to relate what we did during EFL to class work. * Used EFL booklet as reference Held discussions ; list down what we learnt SOLUTIONS! Here we come…

  9. Solutions

  10. Solution ( Cost )

  11. Canopy walk : More than 60% felt that it can be removed

  12. Solution ( Cost )

  14. Solution ( Cost )

  15. Solution (Cost) 2. Prove that the money that was spent on Sec 3 EFL was well-spent. 1. Food provided was good. • Different varieties of dishes everyday. • Balanced diet • Sufficient amount of food for everyone 2. Good facilities. • Proper Beds • Electric fans available for use • Proper toilet facilities 3. Activities carried out were good. • We learnt different values from the different activities. • We are able to relate classroom work to reality. • A whole new experience

  16. Solution (Cost - Comparison)

  17. Solution ( Risk Factor ) • Suggestions on how we can ensure that the EFL’s risk factor is reduced. 1. How we can make each activity less dangerous. • Rafting - The life jackets should be in good conditions - Trainers should check to see if we are wearing the life jacket properly. • Abseiling - They should provide us with thicker gloves • An additional rope can be attached to another trainer • The equipment used should be checked regularly • Caving - Gloves should be provided

  18. Solution (Risk Factor) Examples • Abseiling • Short briefing by trainers • Live demonstration • Trainers will check that equipment is worn properly • Safety rope attached to trainer • Rafting • Trainers were positioned around the river bank • Trainers gave us instructions to help guide us • Life jackets used Risk Level is at its… LOWEST!

  19. Solution (Learning Issues) Physics • We applied : STABILTY Through RAFTING!

  20. Teamwork and Co-operation • We learnt : • how to work in a group effectively • be tolerant of one another. TREKKING! RAFTING !

  21. Global Issues – Biofuel • We Learnt : • How the oil palm is processed • Many uses of palm oil. Food for Thought… Is palm oil a feasible solution? Or not?

  22. Newspaper Article on Biofuel

  23. We applied :BIOLOGY • Learnt how cave community is inter-dependent on one another • How bats contribute to the fertility of the soil
