Why Marketing Segmentation • A single marketing mix does not apply to all consumers • Different consumers needs • Different consumers preferences • Different purchasing power • Identify the factors that affect purchasing decision • Identify consumers groups based on these factors • Adjust marketing strategies to meet the needs of each group

Criteria for Effective Segmentation • The market segment must present measurable purchasing power and size • Promote and serve effectively the market segment • Segment must be sufficiently large to give good profit potential • The firm must aim for segments that match its marketing capabilities
