  2. The average American produces about 1,600 pounds of garbage a year 29 pounds per week and 4.4 pounds a day

  3. Approximately 60% of garbage thrown away today could be recycled

  4. 1 plastic bottle can last up to 1000 years in the landfill

  5. Recycling just 1 plastic bottle can save the environment from the emissions in producing new bottles enough energy to power a 60W light bulb for 6 hours and the oil used to produce that bottle

  6. Every 1 ton of plastic that is recycled can save almost 2000 pounds of oil

  7. Glass takes up to 4000 years to decompose in a landfill yet can be recycled indefinitely

  8. The energy saved from recycling 1 glass bottle can run a compact fluorescent bulb for 20 hours

  9. Each ton of recycled paper can save 4000 kilowatts of energy 380 gallons of oil 17 trees 7000 gallons of water

  10. This represents an energy savings of 64% a water savings of 58% and 60 pounds less of air pollution
