  1. Anti-Inflammatory Drug – How They Can Help With Severe Joint Pain

  2. According to many healthcare professionals & influencers around the world, joint pain is one of the most recurrent health issues among both middle-aged individuals and older adults. Getting a backache after standing for a few hours in a row or your knees hurting after a regular grocery run is not just irritating, but it restricts you from carrying out routinely activities. There are multiple reasons for extreme joint pain, primarily arthritis or calcium deficiency. However, the most recommended solution to get relief from it is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Here is everything you need to know about them: What are NSAIDs? Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the most popular recommendation by doctors for pain relief. Whether it is your head, back or joint hurting, NSAIDs are always there to help you eliminate the pain. The common NSAIDs you must be aware of are aspirin, Ibuprofen naproxen sodium. You can easily get these medicines with or without a prescription from any drug store. NSAIDs are usually used for treating: Backaches Muscle Pain Dental Pain Symptoms of Arthritis Symptoms of Osteoarthritis Pain occurring from gout Symptoms of cold, such as fever or mild body aches

  3. How do NSAIDs help with pain relief? Usually, our joint pain is caused either by injury or any health condition that causes inflammation. NSAIDs aid the pain relieving process by keeping the body from producing chemicals that cause inflammation. They also treat mild pain, such as headaches or menstrual cramps. As the name suggests, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs work like steroids but do not have the same side effects.  How long these drugs take to work depends on the condition you are using them for. If you have a fever or acute muscle pain, you should take NSAIDs that work instantly, and you will have to take them every six to four hours since their action time is relatively shorter. If you are using NSAIDs for long-term health conditions such as arthritis, your doctor is likely to recommend taking them twice or thrice a day. However, these types of NSAIDs have the slower pain-relieving ability that you are likely to experience in a week or two.  What to know about the prescription of NSAIDs? Doctors prescribe NSAIDs as per the health condition. You can take them from one to four times a day if your doctor suggests treating severe pain. Make sure not to decrease the dose without your doctor’s permission. Depending upon the redness or stiffness of your joints if suffering from arthritis, doctors can increase or reduce the dose of drugs to enhance their effectiveness. It isn’t guaranteed that the NSAIDs that the doctor has recommended will work for you immediately; they are more likely to try several of them before finding the right solution to your problem.

  4. What are the common side effects of NSAIDs? The long-term usage of NSAIDs can lead you to experience its side effects. Some of them are mild and will vanish timely, whereas the serious ones will surely need instant medical attention. The common side effects usually include vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, nausea, gas, stomachache, etc. See your doctor immediately if these symptoms do not go away even after a few days.  The other serious side effects you should keep an eye for are dizziness, the problem with balance, black stool, bloody urine, abnormal weight gain, inability to urinate, speaking difficulty, blurred vision, and blood in vomiting.  The Bottom Line: Make sure not to take any medication ever without a doctor’s recommendation. If you have a specific health condition such as pregnancy, kidney issues, heart concerns, asthma, liver disease, ulcer, etc., you need to be extra careful before opting for NSAIDs.
