Overview of Emergency Preparedness • This training is part of the UCOP Emergency Action Plan Training (Title 8, California Code of Regulations, Section 3220). • Procedures to follow during different types of emergencies are addressed on the: UCOP Emergency Preparedness Webpage • The one page Emergency Preparedness Quick Reference should be readily available in the office of each employee for quick reference.

  3. General Guidance for Medical Emergencies • Remain calm • Take time to assess the situation and hazards (Avoid tunnel vision) • Call 9-1-1 ASAP if serious – Using a Cell Phone call the ‘9-1-1 Equivalent’ local phone number • After calling 9-1-1 contact Building Security to initiate internal response

Also remember to enter 1 before those area codes outside your cell's area code number.

Fire Safety • Fire Alarm Pull Stations, Typically Located: • Near the Emergency Exit Doors Leading to the Stairwells • Call 9-911 Then Contact Security -7-0020 (OSF Security for 20th St. Building) • Warn Others in Immediate Area • Use Fire Extinguisher Only if It’s a Small Fire and Safe to Do So

  7. Earthquake Safety Duck, Cover and Hold in place until the shaking stops. Face away from windows and stay clear of falling objects. Stay Inside! Do not evacuate unless directed to do so. Do not use the stairs until instructed that it is safe to do so. Once the earthquake has stopped, survey your area. Report all injuries and damage to Security at 7-0020. Be prepared for aftershocks. Follow directions given by Building Management or by your Floor Warden.

  8. Active Shooter Notification • 1) Call 9-1-1 (landline) or 510-777-3211 (Oakland Police Department 911 equivalent cell phone) • 2) Provide location of incident: - building name - floor level - room number • 3) Describe briefly what is happening -ex: man or woman with a gun shooting • 4) Provide your name and phone number -ex: John Smith 2-0000 • 5) Suspect physical description  • 6) Weapon description • 7) Report any injuries

  9. If a person enters your work area with a weapon: • 1) ESCAPE if possible • 2) Otherwise go to the nearest room out of sight and lock and/or block doors. • 3) Hide under your desk or in far corner of your office. • 4) Keep still- stay silent and listen. Look for a chance to escape.

  10. Workplace Violence • If a person’s behavior becomes inappropriate or violent, leave the area if possible and notify Security and your supervisor. If you feel you are in imminent danger, dial 9-911. • Trust your instincts. Try to create physical space between you and any threatening person. • Suspicious persons should be reported to Security at 7-0020. Security will notify the Oakland Police if necessary.

  11. Civil Unrest Terrorism • In the event of civil unrest or a terrorism incident, you will be notified by either Building Management, Building Security, or your Floor Warden. Follow instructions. • You will be advised as to the nature of the situation, and whether to evacuate or if it is unsafe to leave the building.

  12. Bomb Threats • Ask caller the following questions: • When will it explode? • Where/what type of device? • What does it look like? • What is your name? • Check caller ID for phone #. • Note caller’s voice/sounds. • Notify Security at 7-0020. • Notify Security of any unusual items in your area- do not touch them.
