  1. Humility can be defined & described with numerous terms. – Lowliness of mind – – Strength under control – (meekness) It is harder for people of prominence to learn, display humility than for the more “common man.”

  2. The humility of Jesus was without question. He is the perfect example of humility in a prominent Person.

  3. The Humility Of Jesus • The One who could call 72,000 angels to defend Himself…

  4. Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels? Matt 26:52-53

  5. The Humility Of Jesus • The One who could call 72,000 angels to defend Himself… …chose to endure His creation’s hatred & rejection.

  6. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort around Him. And they stripped Him, and put a scarlet robe on Him. And after weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they kneeled down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

  7. And they spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head. Matt 27:27-30

  8. And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots… And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

  9. In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him, and saying, “He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we shall believe in Him.” Matt 27:35, 39-42

  10. The Humility Of Jesus • The One who would rule the nations as His inheritance…

  11. The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill. I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.”

  12. “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.” Psa 2:2, 6-8

  13. The Humility Of Jesus • The One who would rule the nations as His inheritance… …chose to be born in a barn stall.

  14. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register, along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. And it came about that while they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.

  15. And she gave birth to her first-born son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn. Lk 2:4-7

  16. Jesus portrayed Himself as the very essence of humility. He urges us to come to Him and learn about His humility.

  17. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. Matt 11:29
