  1. 3 weeks Review 7th grade www.kjpease.jimdo.com http://www.freefever.com/animatedgifs/bodyparts.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lungs

  2. A) The appendix B) The liver C) A lung D) A kidney E) A heart valve Explain why A human CAN or CANNOT survive the loss of each of the following -

  3. The appendix • The Appendix is a worm-shaped appendage that sticks out from the top portion of the large intestine. • The main function of the appendix is unknown. The Appendix

  4. The Liver • It has a wide range of functions, a few of which are detoxification, protein synthesis, and production of biochemicals necessary for digestion • The liver is necessary for survival; a human can only last up to 24 hours without liver function. Sheep Liver

  5. The Lung • The lung is the essential respiration organ in air-breathing. Lungs are in the chest on either side of the heart. Their principal function is to transport oxygen from the atmosphere.

  6. Real Cat Kidney A Kidney • Your kidneys play a vital role in keeping your blood composition constant. They filter your blood to remove excess water and waste products, which are secreted from your kidneys as urine. • People can live healthily with one functioning kidney.

  7. A Heart Valve • heart valves maintain the unidirectional flow of blood in the heart by opening and closing depending on the difference in pressure on each side. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_valve

  8. The diagram below shows the front inside view of a human heart. Which parts are carrying oxygen rich blood? How can you Tell? Which parts are carrying carbon dioxide rich blood? How can you tell?

  9. Which parts are carrying oxygen rich blood? • The left Side of the Heart. • (See Diagram) http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/heart/heartmap.html

  10. Which parts are carrying carbon dioxide rich blood? How can you tell? The right Side of the Heart. It is shown in blue. It is the used blood returning to the body.

  11. What is the name of this system? What is its primary function?

  12. Digestive System click on picture for information http://kidshealth.org/kid/htbw/digestive_system.html

  13. What systems do these Parts belong to?

  14. Nervous System • What is the nervous system?Made up of your brain, your spinal cord, and an enormous network of nerves that thread throughout your body, it's the control center for your entire body. Your brain uses information it receives from your nerves to coordinate all of your actions and reactions. Without it, you couldn't exist! http://www.emc.maricopa.edu/faculty/farabee/BIOBK/BioBookNERV.html

  15. If you were stuck by a needle, what would be the order of the response by your body according to this diagram?

  16. Name the parts of The bone. a b c e d

  17. What is the function of each part. a b c e d

  18. Click on link below

  19. What is the name and function of each of these organs.? a b c d

  20. A: Lungs, Respiratory System • Your lungs make up one of the largest organs in your body, and they work with your respiratory system to allow you to take in fresh air, get rid of stale air, and even talk.

  21. B: Heart, Circulatory System • http://kidshealth.org/PageManager.jsp?lic=1&article_set=59298&cat_id=20607 • Click on link for short video

  22. C: Liver, Digestive System • The liver helps you by taking toxins out of your blood. • The liver also cleans blood that has just been enriched with vitamins and minerals during digestion. • Link below describes the Digestive System http://kidshealth.org/PageManager.jsp?lic=1&article_set=59299&cat_id=20607

  23. D: Kidneys, • The kidneys are sophisticated reprocessing machines. Every day, your kidneys process about 200 quarts of blood to sift out about 2 quarts of waste products and extra water. The waste and extra water become urine, which flows to your bladder through tubes called ureters.

  24. Identify the two systems represented by the diagram. Explain the interaction between the two systems shown.

  25. Circulatory and Respiratory System • Click on link below • http://pennhealth.com/health_info/animationplayer/cardiac_system.html

  26. Which part of this system has the function of absorbing water back into your body? Which part of this system has the function of absorbing nutrients into your bloodstream?

  27. Which part of this system has the function of absorbing water back into your body?

  28. Which part of this system has the function of absorbing nutrients into your bloodstream?

  29. What type of joint is shown in the diagram. Where do you find it in the body?

  30. Ball and Socket Joint • These are found in the shoulder and the hip. They allow a circular movement in these joints. http://www.saburchill.com/chapters/chap0008.html http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/B/ball-and-socket_joint.html

  31. What type of joint is shown in the diagram. Where do you find it in the body?

  32. Pivot Joint • The end of one bone rotates round the axis of another bone such as the end of the radius rotating around the ulna as the palm of the hand is turned inwards or outwards. http://www.botany.uwc.ac.za/sci_ed/grade10/manphys/joints.htm

  33. What type of joint is shown in the diagram. Where do you find it in the body?

  34. Hinge Joint • These joints occur where the convex surface of one bone fits into the concave surface of another bone, so making movement possible in one plane only. Examples of these joints are the knee and the elbow joints.

  35. What type of joint is shown in the diagram. Where do you find it in the body?

  36. Pivot Joint • bony ring rotates round the pivot (axis) of another bone such as the ring-like atlas rotating around the odontoid process of the axis, allowing the head to turn from side to side. http://www.botany.uwc.ac.za/sci_ed/grade10/manphys/joints.htm

  37. Is this an illustration of a cell, tissue, organ, or system? Is there more than one shown? What is the name and function of the part labeled with an X ? x

  38. Part of Respiratory System • X is the Alveoli • The alveoli are where the oxygen from the air enters your blood, and the carbon dioxide from your body goes into the air. Alveoli are very tiny, but you have a lot of them in your lungs. In fact, you have 300,000,000 alveoli in each lung. http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/ptens2.html

  39. What systems are interacting in the body to help the girl climb the ladder? How are these systems interacting?

  40. What systems are interacting in thebody to help the girl climb the ladder? • Muscular • Skeletal

  41. How are these systems interacting? • Skeletal provides support for the body and the muscular is what makes the bones move.

  42. What systems are interacting in the body to help the girl play basketball? How are these systems interacting?

  43. What systems are interacting in thebody to help the boy play basketball? • Muscular • Skeletal • Circulatory • Respiratory

  44. How are thesesystems interacting? • Skeletal gives shape and support • Muscular makes the bones move • Respiratory allows him to breath in need oxygen for the cells • Circulatory takes the needed oxygen to cells through his blood.

  45. Is this a cell, tissue, organ or system? What is the name of it? What is its function?

  46. System • The Nervous System • The nervous system is a network of specialized cells that communicate information about an animal's surroundings and itself. It processes this information and causes reactions in other parts of the body.

  47. The boy in the picture just ran a 100 yard dash in track and field. What is he doing in the diagram? What systems were affected by his run?

  48. Taking his pulse. • A pulse is created as blood is pushed along through the arteries. The artery contracts and relaxes periodically to rhythmically force the blood along its way circulating throughout the body. http://www.cchs.net/health/health-info/docs/0900/0984.asp?index=5508 http://healthfieldmedicare.suite101.com/article.cfm/vital_signs__how_to_take_a_pulse

  49. Systems affected by his run are… • Skeletal • Muscular • Respiratory • Circulatory http://www.freefever.com/animatedgifs/cartoons/thesimpsons.html

  50. What is the picture showing an example of? What might be the action taken by the person?
