Schools-On-I-Net and Google Apps for Education

Effective July 1, 2008, Schools on I-Net is transitioning to Google Apps for Education. This includes the use of Gmail for email communication. This move provides better email capabilities, access to innovative technologies, and a safer email experience.

  5. The end result: • Your own school domain: yourname@yavnehacademy.org

  6. What changes for you? • Your yellow SOINMail screen will appear as the blue Gmail screen • Your email address will be Loginid @ yavnehacademy.org • You will be able to send and receive emails from anyone

  7. What does not change? • The way you use the school website • The way you email from the Communications module • Student Roster • Staff Roster • Div Send Email

  8. How this worksLogin to the school website as you usually do…

  9. To get to your email… Click the SOINMail Icon or the New Message Indicator

  10. Instead of the yellow SOINmail screen, you will see your new blue SOIN-Gmail Account

  12. Important: • The first time you login to your email with the new system, you will be asked to confirm your account and accept the Gmail terms and conditions

  13. On July 1, the first time you access the new email system… • Use your website login id and password to Sign In… Enter your Yavneh Academy website Username and Password here

  14. Type in the letters that you see above Read the terms of service and Click the button “I accept, Create my account.

  16. Important Info • This change will be effective July 1, 2008 • You will not lose emails • There will be a one week migration period when emails will be going to the yellow SOINMail while your Gmail is being setup. • Resources available on the Yavneh Academy website

  17. FAQs 1) Is this an open or closed system (can people email us from any address) • It is OPEN 2) Do the kids have open accts? • YES

  18. 3) Will our school contacts be switched over to google? • YES Staff Addresses 4) Will our private contacts be switched over to google contacts? • NO

  19. 5) Will our old emails and folders be moved? • YES Folders become Labels 6) Will we need to log in at the web site and again at the email? • The first time. After that, you only login to the website as you do now.

  20. 7) When people send to the old soinmail.com address will they get a message that this is closed? • YES. 8) When will this change take place? • July 1, 2008

  21. 9) How will parents be informed of the change? • Website Notification, Newsletters, Emails 10) Why is this open system more safe than soinmail old open system? • Better Spam Protection 11) What do we need to do the make the change ? • After July 1, 2008, you will need to accept and confirm your Gmail account.
