Sustainable forest management • Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park • Sustainable forest management as part of the park’s enabling legislation • Forest Stewardship Certification (FSC) every year • NETN Ecological Integrity scores suggested increasing: • CWD and large snags • Park management responded by: • Creating standing snags • Increasing CWD E X P E R I E N C E Y O U R A M E R I C A

Deer Management • Valley Forge National Historical Park • White-tailed deer (241 mi2) overgrazing is creating ideal habitat for invading exotics and preventing regeneration • Deer management plan will use I&Mdata to evaluate whether targeted deer densities (36 mi2) allow sustainable regeneration

Forest Health Cuts Gettysburg National Military Park • Deer management in 1995 (325 deer/mile2) • Plan included forest health-cuts to assist in forest regeneration and restore historic landscape • Resulted in no significant difference in regeneration, increasing exotic cover since cutting E X P E R I E N C E Y O U R A M E R I C A
