  1. Leveling the Playing FieldWith Technology A New Approach to Differentiated Instruction

  2. One Classroom . . . .Dozens of Challenges • How do you manage . . . • Multiple reading levels in a single classroom? • Different learning styles and needs? • Students who need additional support to manage grade level material? • Students who need additional challenge to continue growing their skills?

  3. What does “differentiated instruction” look like? • Multiple lesson plans prepared by the teacher each night for different groups of students? • A classroom where some students are separated out to do “different” assignments from the rest of the class? • Scrambling to find materials appropriate for students who are not on grade level? • Giving advanced students extra assignments as “enrichment”? • Grading and tracking multiple assignments and assignment types?

  4. Is there a BETTER way? • What If . . . • Teachers could easily know the appropriate instructional level for each student, and track progress towards proficiency? • All students could participate on the same assignment, with the same topic – but at a level differentiated for each student? • Teachers could differentiate instruction easily and automatically, without creating multiple lessons? • We could find a way to differentiate that is INCLUSIVE instead of EXCLUSIVE?

  5. Achieve3000’s Philosophy in Action • Reach every student at his/her individual level • Lexile assessment • Student Academic Profile • Content that “fits just right” • Process and Product activities that are differentiated • Student Motivation

  6. Achieve3000 • Teaching students one-on-one, at their level, is one of the most powerful ways to help them reach their maximum potential. • For students in grades 2-12 • Authentic Differentiation • Excellent Test Prep • Data to Inform Instruction • Parent Component THE LEADER IN DIFFERENTIATED LITERACY INSTRUCTION

  7. DifferentiationOne Topic at Multiple Levels 6th grade standards, 6th grade reading level 6th grade standards, 2nd grade reading level 6th grade standards, 10th grade reading level

  8. Why is this important? • With automated technology, it is now EASY for teachers to practice INCLUSIVE differentiation • No additional assignments to prepare • No need to remember exactly which level each student is on • Easy tracking, progress monitoring, and instructional decision making • When all students read the SAME topic, they can all participate in class discussion and group assignments • Struggling students learn by talking with peers at all levels • Students are not stigmatized by being “left out” of the conversation • Students are exposed to the same core knowledge

  9. When you reach students at their level . . . Gains are maximized for EVERY student
