  1. Attaining Your Potential • Complete in Christ "And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ." (Colossians 1:28) • A dwelling of God in the Spirit “in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:22)

  2. Position and Purpose Attaining Your Potential

  3. Ephesians 2:1-10

  4. I. What and Where? (verses 1-6) • What You Were • Dead – disobedient to God • Obedient to the devil • Subject to God’s anger • All of us used to live that way – following passionate desires and inclinations of the sinful nature

  5. Where You Were • Living in sin • In the kingdom of darkness • Colossians 1:13 - 14 13For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,  14who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.  • Dominion of darkness

  6. Devil – commander of the powers of the unseen world (prince of the power of the air) • 2 Corinthians 4:3 - 4 3If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing.  4Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

  7. What You Are • Alive • Saved • Raised from the dead

  8. Where You Are • Raised with Christ • Seated with Christ in the heavenly realms • United with Christ

  9. II. How and Why? • How (verses 4-5, 8-9) • But God… • Rich in mercy • Loved us so much • Saved you by his grace • Through faith

  10. Grace • Favor or kindness shown without regard to the worth or merit of the one receiving it • A key attribute of God – associated with mercy, love, compassion, patience • Faith – trust in God’s grace - not your works

  11. Why (verses 4,7,10) • Because God loved us so much – even though we were dead in sin • So we would be examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness • So we can do the good things he planned for us long ago

  12. III. Photizo – Illumination With An Image

  13. Photizo – illuminated with an image • Your position in Christ • Your purpose in Christ • Position • Jesus – far above any ruler or authority, a place of honor at God’s right hand • We are seated with him • Must know our position or we will be defeated in our purpose

  14. Mark 16:17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.

  15. Acts 19:13 - 16 13A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!”  14Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this.  15But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?”  16Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered.

  16. Defeat the flaming missiles of enemy with the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit

  17. Purpose • Generally – to be an expression of his life wherever we find ourselves • Specifically – the body of Christ, each part doing its own special work, within and outside of the congregation

  18. My Photizo moment • My Aegis (ē'jĭs) • Protection: a child whose welfare is now under the aegis of the courts. • Guidance, direction, or control: • Area of jurisdiction

  19. Interaction Time • How does the evil one influence people to sin? • What caused God to bring forth salvation through Christ? • What is the role of good works according to verse 10? • Describe your Photizo (pronounced fo-tid'-zo) – the image of your purpose that you have inside of yourself
