  2. interRAI fast tracked • OAG report – recommended speeding up adoption of interRAI into ARC • Used internationally - NZ is the first country in the world to mandate use by all • Certainly beneficial to have everyone using the same assessment tool • For small stand alones it could be a great improvement • A fantastic data base for the MOH who will have direct line of site into every resident in aged care Bupa G Langlands NENZ 15 August 2014

  3. Pinch points • Many providers have invested many thousands into software programmes l • V Care - I care - Lee Care - all are having problems with linking across • ONLY RNs can complete the on line assessments • It IS taking RN’s away from care • Care plans that fall directly out of interRAI do not meet current best practice • There is no strategic document or framework about what comes next • No decision yet about who will hold the ‘quality data’ and who can access it • Unclear who and how they will manage annual competency updates • Only being funded for 1 RN : 15 residents • Bupa will be funded to train 350 nurses and have another 250 that won’t be trained • YPDs, Mental Health, Palliative care ??? Bupa G Langlands NENZ 15 August 2014

  4. Bupa’s plan • Partnered with Selwyn Foundation • Will do our own training in house - Train-the-trainer intensive training sessions • Six month development project > 3 Bupa sites: Parkwood, Parklands and Te Puke > 2 Selwyn care homes, Franklin Memorial Hospital and CMDHB • Using the learning that comes from the development sites to inform national roll out Bupa G Langlands NENZ 15 August 2014

  5. It’s a big job • 2 senior RNs + a project manager • + an administrator all seconded • 57 care homes - 350 RN’s to be trained • Identifying and releasing regional trainers • Class size is capped • 1 trainer : 4 nurses • Releasing and replacing Bupa G Langlands NENZ 15 August 2014

  6. Commissioned an evaluation report • Contracted Chris Howard Brown to complete an evaluation of the pilot • > What has been the impact of rolling out of interRAI ? • > What has been the cost ? • > How has it impacted on current processes • > Has there been an impact on the quality of care Bupa G Langlands NENZ 15 August 2014

  7. Progress to date • Over 50RN’s trained to date • In house resources: • Intro to interRAI pre-learning • LTCF nurse assessor workbook • Momentum care plan guide • Computer essentials for interRAI guide • Administrator guide • Manager guide – How to embed interRAI • Information technology – iPadsvs laptops Bupa G Langlands NENZ 15 August 2014
