  1. Underlying event in inclusive Z boson production • ATL-COM-PHYS-2012-1091(in preparation) • ATL-COM-PHYS-2012-1295 • https://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1463358 D.Kar (Glasgow U.); A.Miagkov, V.Nikolaenko, O.Zenin (IHEP); Wynne, B (Edinburgh U.) Measurement of observables sensitive to the underlying event in inclusive Z-boson events at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV • Forward and transverse regions are sensitive to UE after removal of leptons from Z • UE: ISR+FSR, MPI, beam remnants • Instrumental UE: pileup, detector noise Observables:

  2. Underlying event: transverse min/max regions Trans.max.: • Shape depends on Z pT => jet activity. • Described by UE + pQCD models. • Inconvenient for MC tuning Trans.min.: • No Z pT dependence: trans.min. region is most sensitive to the UE • MC/data agreement at O(10%) level • Suitable to tune MC UE(MPI) models
